The Story of the acquisition and restoration of a Vietnam War era PBR MKII Navy River Patrol Boat, PBR 31RP6927
As you can imagine, it's no small expense to transport and operate this boat. Most people boat for pleasure, some boat to get away, while others use a boat as a means to enjoy fishing.
I derive my boating pleasure from sharing the historical significance as well as educating the public about the Brown Water Navy's history in Vietnam. There is nothing more rewarding, yet profoundly humbling, than being able to reunite a Vietnam River Vet with his past. To some, it brings closure. To others, it's a tangible way to explain to their families what they did during the war.
A typical day, while on station with the LST, will have me discussing the boat's history and heritage with school tours as well as interested adults. I meet a great number of River Vets during these events. Although I don't offer the boat for hire, I always offer a River Vet a ride with the opportunity for him to take the helm. Their spouse, significant other or families are also invited. As far as I'm concerned, they purchased their ticket in SE Asia many years ago. All I ask for in return, is that they take my card and share my info with their former boatmates, so that they can contact me if they happen to be in my area and are interested in a cruise or some time with the boat.
This is my small way of saying "Welcome Home, and Thank you for your service".
Any donations, whether financial or in kind service, will be gladly accepted and greatly appreciated and used exclusively for promoting Brown Water Navy History and keeping veterans involved with the boat and the boat involved with veterans.
